OSR: Random Magic-User Generator

This is a spiritual sequel to one of my earliest posts, but written with Free-Form Magic in mind.  Read the original here.  Ideas borrowed from here.

What type of spellcaster is he?

1d4
1- Hedge-Witch.  He never attended any form of formal or semi-formal institution to learn magic.  He likely learned from his Master as an apprentice in the ancient way.  Before the current era, this is how all magic-users learned.  He is a practitioner of folk-magic and the ancient arts.  His legal status is uncertain and varying, depending on region and custom.
2- Chartered Wizard.  He comes from an Order of magic-users granted civil sanction to exist and practice openly.  His legal status is legitimate and he has the backing of an institution behind him.  He likely has some kind of title, such as Wizard, Doctor (of Sorcery) or Magus.
3- Outsider Mage.  He practices some form or school of magic from Foreign Parts or one not recognized by existing authorities, magical or otherwise.  He has no legal status, but neither is he a marked enemy.
4- Outlaw Mage.  He practices some form or school of magic that has been marked as illegal, branded as "black magic".  He must conceal his true talents and never practice it openly, lest he attract Chartered Wizards, Paladins or Witch-Hunters.
